Janet Walker MSN, RN is a nursing practitioner with more than 20 years experience in the front lines of health care. She has worked at the bedside with patients and in the boardroom with management. A regular lecturer and adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia, Janet teaches leadership and management in the School of Nursing. She has contributed to two Canadian texts on the subject.
Currently, Janet is researching and writing about Canadians who are having difficulty getting timely access to medically necessary care.
These are folks who have their lives suspended as they deal with pain and other health issues while waiting for care. Often, they feel unable to continue waiting. They leave the wait lines and find their own solutions in the world of private care in Canada, United States, and increasingly, in foreign countries.
Janet is meeting these people, documenting their stories and most importantly, their advice. She is gathering and publishing this valuable information for two reasons. The first is to systematically document, for the first time ever, the realities of Canadians waiting and leaving for healthcare. The second reason is to help bring about needed changes through increased awareness.
If you would like to share your story about waiting or leaving for healthcare, please contact Janet here. She will be glad to share more information about her work and to answer your questions.
